Description
Tripp Lite's B024-DUA8-DL DVI/USB KVM Switch eases multi-server management in data centers, server rooms and other high-density environments. This premium rack-mount KVM switch provides complete control of up to eight connected computers from a single DVI monitor, USB keyboard and USB mouse. By cascading up to three levels of KVM switches, you can control up to 512 computers at the same time. Recommended for IT managers needing centralized access to a variety of digital and analog servers, this DVI/USB KVM switch also supports a VGA display when connected to a DVI to VGA adapter (such as Tripp Lite's P556-Series). The B024-DUA8-DL's DVI-I dual-link connector supports digital video resolutions up to 2560 x 1600, including 1080p, and analog video resolutions up to 2048 x 1536. The multi-view installation feature lets you stack up to four KVM switches for connecting computers with up to four DVI outputs and displaying video on up to four console monitors, giving you flexibility in video output. A 3.5 mm microphone jack provides audio input to connected computers. A 3.5 mm audio jack provides 2.1-channel sound to connected speakers. The OSD presents a text-based interface in eight different languages and allows backup of KVM configuration and user profile information. Dual-tier password protection enhances security for an administrator and up to four users. A DB9 cable is included for firmware upgrades that keep the KVM switch up to date with the latest technology. Easy front-panel access to USB 2.0 hub ports allows quick connection of two USB devices, such as flash drives and printers. The B024-DUA8-DL offers a comprehensive, cost-effective management solution that installs in 1U of rack space. Because compatibility is based on common hardware standards rather than system software dependencies, almost any platform can be accommodated. This KVM switch is compatible with all major operating systems, and upgradeable firmware fine-tunes compatibility with emerging standards.

I spent hours installing this in my rack (which is very difficult to move and get to back), cabled to Tripp Lite KVM rack device, only to find that port 3 doesn't work. It was my fault for not testing all the ports before installation, but it is WAY too much trouble to remove, send back, to get another. Fortunately I don't need all 8 ports. The product description says that cables are included for easy hook up. Only two cables are included - you need to by 14 more to hook up to all ports....The device works well, though the cables all have both PS2 and USB ends, so I end up with the PS2 ends unused and have to Velcro them up. The software isn't the greatest UI, but it does the job. The resolution is a bit funky, but it certainly provides the console access when you need it, so overall it works well. Documentation is a bit thin, I'd like to figure out how to change the authentication model so that it goes against by AD credentials, but no luck there yet. It would also be nice to be able to change the certificate so that it can pass certificate checks, but no luck there either. It's possible I got a bad unit but this switch is marginal at best for what I think a $600 unit should be. It is very slow switching between sources. The video feed is noisy which varies from slightly annoying to unusable. The USB sometimes needs to be unplugged to make the keyboard work. I didn't really need an 8 port unit but wanted the nice rack mount size. I swapped in another cheaper 4 port unit we had around and the difference is night and day in terms of switching speed, video clarity, and lack of USB problems (only changed the switch, not any of the cables). We will buy something different to permanently replace this unit.Great product. No problems I used many other KWM's but it was always something. Small glitches. I use this one now for 3 months no problems. The only minor complaint is that I had to buy their cabling. Since everything works not a big deal. I use it to switch between 3 or 4 work stations. Bought one more last week for my second desk.easy install, easy to use.
